Neon SRT-4 competition

the only way for an mx5 to beat this neon on a track is if its a slow track with multiple slow turns. 0-100mph in 12.9 vs 16.2 seconds and 0.6 seconds difference to 60mph.
Honestly though id prefer the new 2016 mx5 - (which I used the times for) it would be more fun, but id have to add at least 60hp lol.

I agree that the Neon would beat a Miata on big road courses. These second generation Neons are heavier than the 1st generation models, but they still handle well. The SRT-4 models probably have some torque steer and other problems, but still fast for a cheap front drive car. On an autocross course the Miata will win, but they don't have enough power on big courses like VIR.

Anon 15y ago
Depends. I've heard torque steer, brake hop, terrible rebound dampening, and massive understeer are the weak points for this car. Basically, the neon will pull away in the straights but would have to take each corner with apprehension if he wants to stay on track.

So you mean to tell me a 0 degree front-camber car with a puny 17mm rear sway bar and ridiculous torque steer and brakes that fade like D Wade can handle like a Miata, right?

LOL civic 16y ago
We all know your comment is complete B.S. and you clearly don\'t know a thing about cars

Lol neon 16y ago
Uhmmm...for all you muscle heads whining about slow LAP times, the SRT4 is a straight line car. Throw in turns like VIR and it will get blown away by cars with less hp.

boriss 16y ago
come on - this lap time is bullshit- and its clear. Or one possibility is that driver was 60 years old grannie. This car has acceleration 0-100 in 5,5 seconds. And some mazda 626 with 91bhp engine is still almost one minute faster??? Come on fastestlaps lets be objective here

phil 17y ago
all they need is an agp wastgate to drop the 0-60 by over a second. and they can handle up to 26psi and about 500hp on the stock block and internals, with the agp stage 3

^^ LoL
No, I don't really care but I just wanted to provide the correct info for the site.

As for the stats, the ones given seem possible. Car and Driver got the following numbers for 0-60mph so I think 5.5 sec 0-62 is possible.
The '03 car ran to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and cleared the quarter in 14.1 seconds at 102 mph. The '04 model nipped 0.3 second off the 60-mph sprint (5.3 seconds) and ran the quarter in 13.9 at 103 mph.

The concept vehicle from the show circuit was a 2.0l with a supercharger.

it's not AWD, it's FWD, 5.5 seconds from 0 to 100 is claimed, actual time is around 6.2, 5 speed manual gearbox, and for god sake it's 2 liters 215 HP... not 2.4 230... not the 2004 neon
