@FastestLaps Please change introduction year to 2003 or 2004

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15133698/cadillac-cts-v-road-test/

September 2003 was full reveal post-teaser (with pre-production cars)
May 2004 was when this car first reached production

I have a question for the Cadillac community, did Cadillac ever stuff a V12 into the CTS-V? Because a customer came into my job and we had a huge talk about GM cars and he started by saying that there was not only CTS-V but also a CTS-V12 and that 6 prototypes were unreleased.

I know cadillac had some Northstar xv12s for the cien, not sure if it went into the ctsv though

Nah, he was confused. And Shwingbob, on the other hand, was right.

However, THERE WAS A GOLF WITH A SIMILAR CYLINDER COUNT (in a W arrangement rather than a V arrangement). But that was, of course, from Volkswagen. The Germans know how to do crazy shit even to this very day!

There were two versions of the CTS-V1, the 5.7-liter LS6 and the 6.0-liter LS2. The initial version was a rival for smaller cars like the Audi S4 V8, the BMW 330i Performance Package (there was no M3 sedan at the time), and the Mercedes-AMG C32, but the final version eventually turned it into a rival for bigger cars like the Audi S6 V10, BMW M5 V10, and Mercedes-AMG E55 Kompressor.

Notice that I said "rival", not competitor. The Series 1 CTS-V had no true competitors - unless you count the Chrysler 300C and 300 SRT8 models, or maybe the Lincoln LS V8 Sport, and even those had much different approaches to a performance package.
