im surprised the 1m is faster on the straights, thought the m3 might have the advantage

It's not, the scoring system is just weird like that. Fuel economy is taken into account, and better fuel economy = better performance. Same as when they said the Hellcat is faster than a Carrera GT and barely slower than an Enzo

The problem with the rating system is that it doesn't appear to be properly weighted. For example, if two cars achieve a time of 8:04 and 8:05 respectively, then relatively speaking they are much closer in performance than another two cars which achieve 1:00 and 1:01. Both times may only be 1s apart, but expressed as a percentage, we have a 0.2% difference in the first example but 1% in the second, which explains why Nurburgring lap times seem to skew the results in a two car comparison.

@Derb

No, i dont take serious this stuff :D

In here this pointslist is "amazing". Where i can see that pointslist?

Fastestlaps can forget pointslist in here, and it will be better system in here, if the car will win both categorys, and dont giving points to cars.

For example.

Track Performance: If BMW 1 M Coupe is faster on track, then it will faster on track, and win M3.

Staight line speed: If BMW M3 is faster on straigt line speed, then M3 win.

And if the car wins both categorys, then the car is noticeably faster then other.

Please Fastestlaps, forget the pointslist!

Julle85 has the point. Comparison function should obey transitivity (using Georg's explanation on how it should work), otherwise it is wrongly implemented.

@Julle85
why do you take this comparison so serious?
i think everybody knows that this is not the ultimative way to compare cars

@Georg

How can you explain this?

Audi RS5 is faster than BMW M3 E92 is. And BMW M3 E92 is faster than 1 M Coupe is. And 1 M Coupe is faster than Audi RS5 is. WTF?

?????

Why Audi RS5 topspeed is +280km/h? So Audi RS6 topspeed is also 280km/h.

@Georg: and that's exactly why i think its wrong. If a car gets beaten most of the time it means its generally slower... even if it wins a lot on a couple of tracks... most of the time you'd lose, so its slower not faster.

User avatar

Georg  13y ago

the way the point system works here... the M3 has two tracks with a huge lead over the 1M ...all other tracks are extremly closed match which adds next to no points even f won more tracks overall...
the 10s at the northloop and the 6s at the wet handling test which won the M3 made the different
The point system here is based on time different not numbers of track won...the bigger the different the more points the faster car gets...

@Fastestlaps

BMW 1 Series M coupe have 8/14 better laptimes. So how M3 have better track points?

User avatar

Georg  14y ago

I am currious to see this the next months with more tests getting better numbers for the 1series M Coupe... like sportauto claimed the M3 perfromance pack they tested in 7/2010 was slower...
