@Anonynynynymous

Indeed interesting. If a GT-R is already that fast with it\'s relatively bad power to weight ratio I wonder what a purely track oriented version of this car could do.

Is there any car with worse power to weight in the same league?

User avatar

Anonynynynymous  15y ago

Wait.
So... they had to build super-ultra-hyper-special version of corvette (and also viper), to compete with stock 4-seats family coupe: GT-R, and its \"tiny\" 3.8L V6 packed to the 3828 lbs body.
Well... LOL.
Congratulations.
Other corvettes (and vipers) have absolutely no chance in comparison to GT-R.

But it\'s a pity that the Japanese did not released \"special\" (with more power and less weight) version of the GT-R (like acr/zr1 in viper/corvette). It would be interesting.

I don't watch Nascar, so I wouldn't know.

I watch the ALMS and other SCCA sanctioned events.

I'm not on here to sway other's opinions. I saw a clear discrepancy in your comment regarding the C6 ZR1 and I figured I'd correct it for you. Namely, you've never owned a C6 ZR1 and so you can't accurately describe its reliability, regardless of the cars you've owned in the past.

I tend to look at the Ford GT40 and Viper GTS-R which more or less made European circuits their property in their time. It's a shame that the US only occassionally concentrates in Europe like that. I must admit, Europe overall has much better race series. About the only thing I bother to watch over here is ALMS.

Apathy, you seemed to be quite well informed and perhaps the mind that would be able to sway mine, shame you are giving up so easily, but then again Americans don't do very well in the "global racing arena" when the going gets tough..... Guess you can always look to NASCAR for relief, although isn't Toyota heading that series????

User avatar

Apathy  16y ago

You're right, you didn't say it was rubbish, just that it would fall apart. My mistake... LOL

"do you guys honestly think as a "daily driver" the ZR-1 has what it takes..... The car will fall apart!!!"

This conversation is hopeless. Have fun being irrational.

I can't explain the issues you've had with the three American cars you've owned. It's foolish to project that experience from those cars onto all American cars though. The GNX, CTS-V, and Monte Carlo share no parts with the C6 (obviously). You've decided that all GM cars are rubbish, fine. That's your decision, it's just not a very well informed one.

User avatar

Ring Junkie  16y ago

I had one of the first production CTS-V's, it was a pain in the ass. Which is a shame because I really like the new one, was in the market and looked at it, the ZR-1, which I NEVER said was "rubbish" as you put it, and looked at the GR-R. The wait here in Canada was too long for the GT-R, so I bought a C63 AMG. Nice car, happy so far.

User avatar

Ring Junkie  16y ago

Apathy, it was a 1987 GNX with a Garrett Turbo and a dash Plaque. The whole nine yards. I loved that car, save the electric and transmission issues. You may be right on my bias, but can you blame me, I have BEATEN Hondas that have never had complaints......

User avatar

Apathy  16y ago

Maybe the three cars you owned were heaps, it doesn't make all American cars heaps. Despite this fact, you assumed that the C6 ZR1 was rubbish, even though you've never owned one. That's a literal example of ignorance. BTW, what went wrong with your CTS-V? Those cars actually had a number of problems. Here's the big shocker though, the first generation ones were designed in Australia. They used a Holden Chassis and IRS. The IRS is what most commonly went on any car making decent power.

User avatar

Apathy  16y ago

I seriously doubt you've owned a GNX, maybe a Grand National, but not a GNX. The fact that you refer to American cars as heaps shows how ignorant you are concerning cars. You're biased, and there's no reasoning with someone who is biased. Try being more open to all makes and models of cars, your few experiences shouldn't be used to generalize all cars from the same region. That's just stupid.

User avatar

Ring Junkie  16y ago

I guess Apathy, you have some reasoning. I have owed several European vehicle and several Japanese cars, never had issues with them, irrespective of how I abused them. Every single American heap I have owned, admittedly never a 'vette, and have only had three, CTS-V, GNX, and a Monte Carlo SS, have given me issues with the suspension, g'box and electrics. So forgive me when I say, they just cannot stand up. Perhaps its the harsh Canadian winters that kills them, whatever the case, I like them, just won't buy'em.

User avatar

Apathy  16y ago

Rink Junkie, you clearly have never owned any corvette. You are working solely off a bias that all American cars are junk. I personally have owned a C5 Z06 and have had no issues. I have friends with C6 Z06's with north of 600hp on daily driven tunes. One friend recently purchased a yellow Zr1 and has nearly every bolt-on and has had no complaints so far. BTW, my C5 Z06 had 140k miles when I traded it in. It was my track slut and I beat it accordingly. I never had anything go on it. You are clearly biased against American cars, this isn't the only place I've read you bashing them. Get over it.

User avatar

Rink Junkie  16y ago

Lets be honest, do you guys honestly think as a "daily driver" the ZR-1 has what it takes..... The car will fall apart!!!! it is a great car with a phenomenal drivetrain, but face it, reliability and live-ability are not exactly the Americans strong suite. If it was then GM wouldn't have had the financial meltdown it did...... Cudos for them bouncing back, maybe the ZR-1 had a big part to play in that equation.

Jap Sports Cars:

WRX STI

American Sports Cars:

Saleen S7 TT

Shelby Cobra 427

The Japanese have made very few high end sports cars and none of them have been even close to their American counterparts apart from this new GT-R. If you don't like it, get over it. You are wrong. The Japs do a great job on Camrys and Accords. Doesn't mean they do on supercars.

For the first time in history, an American sports car is a slightly better than the Japanese.
Finally, after decades!
WOW.. thats just... amazing... right?...
Let us be proud of the American automotive industry!
And all fanboys are dancing.

Here is the thing ...
It is 1% faster 100% of the time!!!
Having a GTR is like having a basketball or football season where you loose every game by one point. You still loose! Next week, next month, and next year you still lost and no one cares that it was by one point.
