Interesting how people call the 190E and the E30 M3 competitors when the latter are usually lighter and a lot faster.

The E on 190E stands for Einspritzpumpe. Its german for injection pump. The previous 190 model was a carburetor model.

190E is not evolution.
And this is not a picture of the usual cossy model.

User avatar

@Venom. the E in 190E doesn't stand for Evolution. That would mean that the whole range of 190E models are Evolutions. There's only 2 Evolution models in the 190E range, and that's the Evo I & II

Pretty sure that picture is of the Cozzy.

The "e" in the 190 "e" is German for fuel injected. Einspritzmotor is the exact word I believe.

I recently acquired a 1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3 (non evo, just the stock version) and it's great, one of the best cars i ever have driven. i was lucky enough to find a rare 5 speed version, and the car is a blast to drive. not the fastest car out there...yet. by next summer, im planning on finding an evo body kit, and turbo'ing the car. quite a fun car, i love it.

Mocro outter Maroc! E means Einspritzung (fuel injection) NOT Evolution!

User avatar

venom  16y ago

look at the name, the e and evo are seperate. how do you think i would not know that when my dad retired after over 30 years with merc AND has the actual car lol

User avatar

Mocro outter Maroc  16y ago

Hi there venom but 190e actually means 190evo(lution) and the strongest engines at the time petrolengines and that´s why all the evo´s where fitted with a petrolengine, by the way take a look at my favorite merc petrolcar
W124 E500 latest model

User avatar

venom  16y ago

this is actually a c-class.. the e is german for something that means petrol. trust me my dad has a 1984 190e... besides volvos of the time it really cant get any more dull!! he has retirde and can now get a 26% discont on a new merc but the thing will just not break down lol.

I know this is a old car. It was the basic for the so successfull DTM race car winning over 40times a DTM race.
Senna was testing the 190E a lot during the development. He did his first race vs Alain Prost in a 190E in 1983 during a celebration race for the reopening of the Nürburgring F1 GP track.. Prost won the quali for the 190E race.. Senna kicked him from the track in the first lap and won the race :-)
That was the begin of a never ending hate between both...
