Is the extra "shortness of gears" worth the added complexity and weight?
Whats next? 10 speed, 11 speed, 12 speed 20 speed?
At some point those "infinite" gear changes will start to actually damage efficiency.

"ZF tried to make a 9 speed for Land Rover Evouqe and Jeep Cherokee but it haven't come true yet."
Some weeks ago I had an internship in the ZF factory in the city I live. Inter alia they told me something about the development of the 9 gear gearbox, and that they plan to reveal it in 2014.

First production car with 9 speed automatic transmission. ZF tried to make a 9 speed for Land Rover Evouqe and Jeep Cherokee but it haven't come true yet.
