22 Agera R acceleration records

Cover for Agera R acceleration records

The new Koenigsegg Agera R has set some impressive speed records this week at its swedish track, driven by an independent driver.

The figures are pretty amazing: 0-186 in 14.53 secs, o-200 17.68 secs then 0-186-0 in 21.19 secs and the last - 0-200-0 in 24.96.

That last stat particularly blows the mind. If you check out the U-Tube type video from the facebook pages of Koenigsegg (and yes Im a friend!) they just ran off each run without a pause.

The car is frankly bonkers and you need big balls to attempt a 200-0 braking record, even on a dry track! The times are not yet official but I understand Koenigsegg are aiming for official creditation.

Anyway, its good to see the small swedish firm get some publicity at last, as they have always lived in the shadow of Pagani and these times show that their cars can walk the walk!

pilotguy the Sledge Hammer Corvette was not street legal running under no at this time actual emission laws...

hey in 1938 Mercedes and Auto Union went over 269 and 270mph on public roads with not street legal cars... the tricky part of amazing speed is getting it legaly to the street all around the world... something the Veyron did ... Sledge Hammer not!

the 9ff GTurbo R can do better... unfortunatiyl they have tested at sportauto only 0-300-0km/h not 0-200-0mph and they have tested with passenger...

with passenger the 9ff GTurbo did
0-300-0km/h in 21.5s
0-300km/h in 14.2s
300-0km/h in 7.3s or 303.9m

without passenger 9ff claims
0-300km/h in 12.6s
that would be theoritical
0-300-0km/h in 19.9s

The greatest accomplishment for a supercar maker right now is to smack Bugatti upside the head by conquering the speed record set by the Veyron Super Sport. There are a few cars which may be capable of that feat and Sweden's Koenigsegg might have the vehicle to do it. Look on the Agera R, ye mighty, and fret. The Agera R may be capable, as the twin-turbo 5.0-liter V-8 produces 1,100 horsepower and is reputedly capable of 275 miles per hour, though it isn’t verified yet. Bonneville is far from real roads. Modern hypercars achieve those stats on regular roads.

Well a Calloway Corvette "Sledge Hammer" went 254.7 in 1989, and with half the cylinders, half the turbos, and over 100 less hp than the Veyron.

Also built a stock body Firebird that went 298 at Bonneville in 1989 with 1400hp.

Seems we are not really moving "forward".

Really, to have 250mph Corvettes they'll need 1000hp+

Not necessarily. Significant aero work would bring the needed horsepower way down. The Corvette is actually way draggier than it should be already, it has that stupid air dam. Getting rid of that and installing a full body undertray could bring the Cd from .34 to .32, or maybe .30 with a few other changes.

Though I don't forsee 250 mph Vette's in 10 years.

The SSC Tuatara will break all acceleration and top speed records in 2012.

Well, if you think about it, the current ZR1 has a top speed of 205, and 10 years ago the top corvette (Z06) had a top speed of 170. Now, in 10 more years they probably won't be hitting 240 but still...you never know =)

In ten years I see corvettes being 2700lbs like they were almost 60 years ago with 400-500hp from smaller engines, maybe a V6 biturbo for the base car and Z06 and a v8 for the ZR1. That'll be the C8 no?

Really, to have 250mph Corvettes they'll need 1000hp+ and I don't ever see such kind of cars feasible as mass production vehicles available to the masses.

Now, limited production supercars like this? yeah, I could see them increasing their speeds dramatically in 10years from now.

Its scary how fast cars are becoming. I swear in ten years corvettes will be hitting 250....
That's if all cars arent running on electricity by then =]

That's the time they're getting with the Tuatara mule also. Later it'll get an SMG shift too.

It's all getting pretty stupid though. 0-200mph in twice that time would be more than adequate.

The race for 300mph is on!.... and then the authorities will step in and limit all cars.

User avatar

Kevin  14y ago

Damn, that is fast. Lucky for it SSC never tested the UA. Unofficially they did the 0-200mph in ~16.1s.

Why?

Yes. This article just happens to be published one month late... Don't ask why...
