87 Introducing error reporting and open laptime moderation

Cover for Introducing error reporting and open laptime moderation

The "complete rebuild" of FastestLaps.com seems forever to be just too far away. Especially after the hard drive of my laptop failed and took latest developments with it.

Backlog of un-moderated laptimes, however, has never stood still.

This is why I decided to add two little but, in my opinion, very powerful features to this current version of Fastestlaps.com.

The first one is "Report Error" form. It is a simple one-field form where you (all registered users) can report errors in cars and laptimes (little blue "plus" icon with "Report error"). This is a much needed feature, because up until now, all error reports have been posted in comments, where they get quickly berried under flood of sensible and not so sensible, and sometimes flat out floody comments. Now every edit request submitted via this form will be noticed and processed.

The second feature is community moderation for laptimes. It is a simple system where we all (all registered memebers) essentially have become moderators and can up or down-vote laptimes. Very down-voted laps will eventually get deleted. Initially by hand, but in near future - automatically.

I may also have to add that each member won't have equal voice in this community vote. Our voice will be proportional to our individual rank, which is calculated based on how much we each have contributed to this site.

This rank will, in future, be displayed in member's profile page.

Update: The latest laptimes panel will now show all latest laptimes immediately. Minus the ones you have already marked as correct or incorrect. So don't worry when you see laptime you just moderated disappear from the list. That's how it's supposed to be!

Tip: If you encounter a laptime without any references, either mark it as incorrect immediately or, if you know it's correct, file an error report where you state the reference(s) for this time and then mark it as correct.

@lafars
Moderating laptimes, adding cars and laptimes. Posting comments probably, too.

@ lafars: Helping moderate lap times helps to increase your reputation.

On the note of that: how does the reputationsystem work? And what increases reputation?

@FastestLaps
I have a problem with the submission of cars. It says: Duplicate entry '' for key 'url'. I can not add a single car.

I've experienced the same problem as Super8, I want to add a new thread about classic car sightings.

The site was having trouble today at around 4:30 PM my time, it stopped at around 4:45.

@FastestLaps
The troll keeps on adding cars (partially unnoticed). I think it would be helpful, if cars that have been added recently are shown immediately in the tabs. As done with the laptimes.

@ Admin: Is there any special requirement to add a new thread? Because when I want to add it, it's always said: "error nickname or blank comment". Did I do something wrong when add it?

Thanks for adding some much needed features. This will help to keep out the trouble makers. :)

@ FastestLaps: So it was just that time of the month for the servers.

@Shaggy

There is an intermittent problem where virtual server keeps crashing.

I am trying different settings now. Unfortunately the crashes happen after random period of time, so I can't really check out quickly if these changes have an effect.

Effectively, I have to wait until next crash.

It's shooting in dark. Very frustrating.

I couldn't log on earlier this afternoon, I kept getting a blank white screen that said "503 reporting error no server is available to take your request at this time" and "504 reporting error timed out", I think a lot more people had the same problem, because I see so few recent comments.

Please fix the laptime of the GT-R mk1 @ AMS Driving Center Gross Dolln. I added 1:27.6 while the real time is 1:27.3 min. Thanks :)

@ FaststLaps: I've noticed that, the commentrate has proven to be a devastating weapon against trolls. :D

Wow, it does seem to be working! The comment rating system is a fine Troll repellent. :)

Commentrate is working great! Troll is devastated. I am loving his last desperate attempts. He even registered multiple new accounts just to try to downvote our comments.

But of course, such new accounts have zero reputation and zero voting power.
