Contrary to popular belief, the E55 AMG IS NOT a bad track car. The driver behind that car around the Hockenheim Short clearly had little to no skill. The SL55 AMG with the same engine is no better, and that one did 1:15.9 around that track. This car is just as good as the E60 M5 in every measurement except the skidpad due to a softer rear body roll. It's far more aerodynamic though.

1/4 mile — 12.3/@116 mph (please, fix previous, this car very underrated in comparing with M5 E60 and RS6 C6)

After 2004 W211 E55 gets more powerful high pressure supercharger, so thats why late cars has better acceleration times. Also from 2004 were stay available option of speed delimitation to more than 200 mph (in American market) and the speedometer was increased from 160 to 200 mph (from 259 km/h to 324 km/h).

W211 E55 AMG (Estate)
100–200 — 9.39 sec.
Top Speed — 303 km/h (without speed limiter, +- same numbers, but little worst, because it has higher aerodynamic coefficient and bigger weight)

W211 E55 AMG (Sedan)
100–200 — 9.2 sec.
Top Speed — 309 km/h (without limiter)
One more evidence, that this car can do 100–200 faster than 9.5 seconds))

UPDATED & VASTLY IMPROVED: 8:06.02 lap time for the supercharged 2003 E55 AMG model with my provided "BeamNG Extreme Downforce Kit," since I couldn't stand it being much slower than the naturally aspirated 2002 model. I was very surprised that the 2002 E55 even matched the E39 M5 in the first place though!!
Although it is a common misconception that the M5 will always be the better handler, honestly, I do not think that the E60 M5 will be faster at all than the W211 E55, given an equal setup. I've done a lot of research and realized that the E60 as well was worse than the E39 in the handling department; the flaw with luxury sports sedans in the early-mid 2000s wasn't exclusive to Mercedes-Benz/AMG. The only reason why it was a couple to few seconds faster on shorter tracks was because the higher-revving engine and the sequential transmission are what gave the E60M a huge advantage over the E55 AMG Kompressor on those particular tracks.
The second-gen Cadillac CTS-V and Audi RS6 models were also kinda on edge relative to their first-gen predecessors.

Using equal tuning settings, the E55 W211 takes longer to complete a lap around the Nurburgring than the E55 W210 does. Lap time: 8:34.41.

Both awesome cars though, I think wasted is the wrong word for the 210.. beaten yes and you'd hope so! But wasted.. NO.. we'll leave that for the crappier BMW M3 and their typical arse BMW owners.. Go AMG 210 or 211!

I wasted a W210 E55 in my W211 55 1 mile. Bit quicker than the M3's i've beat but not nearly as quick.
