@fastestlaps please change the name to Lancer Evo VIII FQ-400 and the power to 411 PS

User avatar

Back when mainstream compacts were practical competitors for M3, not M2...

Its not just any Evo.

175mph in a stock evo? (wait a minute)

User avatar

0-100 3.5 seconds?
No.

User avatar

i like this car really much

@Georg
maintenance isn't too bad, the turning circle is bad because of the way the toe on the car is set up. It's made to go around corners not 3 point turns.
For turbo lag just downshift or mild anti lag and it shouldn't be too bad.

@Georg: for idiots that find themselves off-boost in a car they have done a great invention a while back.... an automatic!

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

WOoOdy everyone with brain knows that every turbo engine needs to be in the right rev band and boost pressure to deliver power outside the right rev band you have turbo lag...the problem is the more power you get from a small displacment engine the smaller the engine rev band get were it realy deliver power! The larger the turbo gets the longer it needs to spool the larger the Turbo lag gets...
The chance to be in wrong gear and sit in a corner with "no power" is extremly high in the FQ 400...

User avatar

w0o0dy  15y ago

@Georg: and everybody with half a brain knows there are several ways to make it pull faster than pulling it from idle.
Press the clutch and the throttle and when the turbo gets some boost you release the clutch. Or knock it down 1,2,3,4 gears... and the Evo would fly by.

FQ 400 turbolag visible... epic rolling start battel vs a Stilo :)

1.6miles runway till the FQ400 engine started putting down power

User avatar

Apathy  15y ago

The turbolag can't be THAT bad.

I daily drove a dsm with an FP Green pushing more boost and making much more power than an FQ400 and it wasn't bad at all.

They don't have any over here, but from what I understand, full boost kicks in at 5500rpms. That's kinda shitty considering its redline is 7000rpms, but I would like to see a dyno graph before I draw any conclusions about lag.

That Polo in Georg's link is RIDICULOUS! I wonder how many Golf II GTI engines have given up their lives inside that beast already!

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

@anon

you can order it and drive it on the street... the FQ400 is nothing other than a factory tune version of the basic car with tons of drawbacks and extremly high maintenance cost and it is only sold in the UK.
The LeBlanc is a track toy like Radical, Airel, Mosler and of course the FQ400, the FQ400 with the turning radius of the moon and a turbo lag bigger than the ocean is worthless as daily driver.
The Caroline looks btw lightyears better than the FQ400

@WOoOdy
high power in small displacment engine is only a matter of turbo size and the will to accept extrem maintenance... we have here a VW Polo MkI in Germany with the old 1.8l 16V engine from the Golf Mk II conected to the drive train AWD system of the TT with the register intercooler based on Audis S1 Pikes Peak record car... this little monster puts down 1047hp and 950Nm of torque propelling this little Polo in 2.3s 0-100km/h and 6s 0-125mph(200km/h)

the famous foward wheelstander misshift at the 1/4mile in Hockenheim... still did a 9s run

User avatar

anon  15y ago

LeBlanc Caroline is not really a production car, it's basically a race car, with a race car engine, with twin turbo chargers. It costs more than ten times as much as an Evo.

User avatar

FastestLaps  15y ago

I am not impressed by cars like this. You can have 1000 hp from 100cc. You just need some gunpowder or TNT!

The purpose of an engine is to do work rather than to produce extremely high peak power for a brief moment of time.

User avatar

Apathy  15y ago

@Wooody

He was talking about production engines in their stock form. If modified engines are included, then the 4G63 is the clear winner.

BTW Georg, don't forget the RS200.

User avatar

w0o0dy  15y ago

@Georg i have a video somewhere of a Mitsu Evo with a 720hp 2.0 engine...

User avatar

Georg  15y ago

most powerfull 2.0l engine?

How about
LeBlanc Caroline 2.0l 512hp?
Aeon GT3 1.8l 436hp?

User avatar

anon  15y ago

The laptimes are really bullshit.
The lap around the Top gear test track is not slow, but it could have been a lot faster, it wasn't even in boost at one point.
And the lap around anglesey was driven by a shit driver.
Fact is this car is awesome it has the most powerful 2 liter engine on the planet, you can really scare v10s and v12s.

The wheel well liners on these blow into the tires and melt.

Only way to prevent it is with the optional brake cooling ducts that direct the air around the liners.

I ended up buying 3 replacement wheel well liners before I figured this out. Cant believe Mitsubishi did not discover this in testing. Guess they only tested evo 8\'s that had the brake cooling ducts.

@145139

\"this car is perfect !\"

Oh yes, it\'s perfect.
Except for it\'s turbo lag, how bad mpg it gets, it feels like you\'re sitting on rocks whilst in it, it\'s actually quite ugly, and it\'s uncool to drive it.

User avatar

Apathy  16y ago

@mafia

How the hell is the FQ400 the king of AWD cars?

It still needs to wait in line behind the GTR, Gallardo Superleggera, Bugatti Veyron, etc.

And how is it king of the track? That\'s not even worth discussing...

User avatar

Mafia  16y ago

The Lancer FQ400 is king of all 4WD car.s and king of the track so Lp640 watch out....

User avatar

Yeah..thats real funny........

User avatar

Total wankers own these cars. Btw don't mention the turbo lag! Hahahahahaha

User avatar

BumRush  16y ago

Its not a bad car, Fast for its power, but for £49,000, its not exactly cheap, but there arent many Sedans that can do what this does, but i can think of a few cars for the same price, if not lower id rather have.
