I'm sorry to butt in here on this page.
But is anyone checking out the problems regarding the Car and Driver website? I have not been able to see what is happening on it for the last 5 or 6 days.
Is it a server problem? Or are they in some type of trouble?
Car and Driver tested the new M5 recently.
I use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Any response will be appreciated.

The website seems to be working and their "recent news" section has posts from today (May 25, 2018). Are you not able to visit the website at all?

User avatar

flt158  4m ago @Freakz

I am using Google Chrome (as I have been for some years now). When I key in www.caranddriver.com a Car and Driver page simply states, and I quote: "Sorry, this content is not available in your region". Well my region is Ireland.
Is it different in other countries??
I am lost without Car and Driver. It was always my favourite car website. May 25 ironically was my birthday. But now it is May 26 and I am still getting the same message.

FLT 158.

User avatar

DrDuke  4m ago @flt158

It's because of the GDPR law. They have a tracking/spy page which is against eu law and they didn't get it right until may 25. Like a lot other outer european newspages.

You need a proxy/VPN to bypass the regional lock.

User avatar

flt158  4m ago @DrDuke

Thank you, Mr Duke, for your most excellent advice.
I downloaded free Hola VPN and I can now view the Car and Driver website completely.

M5 F90 introduced
617hp/625ps
Claimed 0-60 3.1s
Claimed 0-124 (0-200km/h) 10.8s
Upgraded suspension etc.
US price $110.000
Can't wait for real world performance data since the ''normal'' M5 already is 0.5s faster than the factory claimed 0-60 time
http://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1494065
I remember when the Nissan GTR come out and everybody was raving about the 0-62 time of 3.5, now you can reach that carrying 5 people.

Contidrom lap time 1:31.08 (1:31.46 for the E63S)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedethecollector/27874203938
the admins seem to be getting lazy as there are hardly any new lap times getting added on this site

User avatar

FastestLaps  5m ago

The link you provided does not list any laptimes.

User avatar

petrr  5m ago @FastestLaps

In the final sentences of that article you can read in German: ''Die Stunde der Wahrheit folgt auf dem Contidrom, unserer Referenzstrecke: Der AMG E63S schafft 1:31.46, der BMW M5 ist mit 1:31,08 mit knapp vier Zehntel schneller''
Roughly translated in: ''the moment of truth follows on Contidrom, our benchmark track: the AMG E63S finishes in 1:31.46, BMW M5 is almost four tenths quicker at 1:31,08''
There also is this video with the lap times shown @6:04 mark:
http://www.autobild.de/videos/video-mercedes-amg-e-63-s-vs-bmw-m5-2018-13532699.html

User avatar

FastestLaps  5m ago @petrr

Why would they not publish these times in the summary table or feature them in a infographic? If they went through the trouble of running those cars all-out around track, they would have showcased that somewhere prominent, not just merely mention it. Maybe DeDe has missed some pages or they actually published those laptimes in some other magazine issue / prior test?

User avatar

petrr  5m ago @FastestLaps

AutoBild has another test coming later in May, it's a four car comparison, it will feature a more serious track comparo too, maybe they're keeping the best for later

User avatar

FastestLaps  5m ago @petrr

I just need to be sure which issue/date these laptimes belong to, if they are just quoting laptimes from some previous test, I need to add that as separate entry. I already added the acceleration and braking data from the April 27th Autobild that you linked to.

User avatar

petrr  5m ago @FastestLaps

You should also add Hockenheim times for these cars (SportAuto 05/2018)

User avatar

Fastedee  7m ago

Well they estimated the new V8 Vantage at 12.7 0-200 even though the 220 kgs heavier DB11 V8 already did that for Autobild. Estimates can be close but traction and efficiency as well as underrated engines throw things off.

User avatar

Disregard my jokes and lies, this car is just as fast as the Audi R8 V10 Plus. WOW. And Mercedes-AMG GT R. This is the first 4dr supercar. Better than AMG E63S, Lexus GS F and Charger Hellcat :)))

BMW is filing a lawsuit against The Hearst Corporation, owner of C&D and R&T, for false advertising the times.

User avatar

FastestLaps  7m ago @hostboy

Filing a lawsuit for too much good publicity? lol

User avatar

petrr  7m ago @hostboy

hostboy sounds like you’re a troubled person
what did BMW do to you? run over your cat?

User avatar

hostboy  7m ago @FastestLaps

I was just joking when I said that but yeah there's no way an M5 is doing 0-60 in 2.8. That's Nissan GT-R and Porsche Turbo S territory.

User avatar

FastestLaps  7m ago @hostboy

Americans like to produce wacky 0-60 times. They do things like rollout and like to test on dragstrips with increased grip. Given that and 4 wheel drive, I see nothing particularly strange about 2.8 0-60 time. Don't forget that Nissan GT-R is a heavy-ass car too, it just has 2 doors, instead of 4.

User avatar

Steve  6m ago @FastestLaps

That 2.8 is rubbish seeing how the E63s beat the M5 with ease. I agree C&D been times are never accurate

User avatar

Monolith29  6m ago @Steve

ya i just watched 2 seperate vids of the new m5 vs the e63s 1/4 mile drag races the other day... between the m5 and e63s and out of 30 repeated drag runs the e63s won every single time. and the one other vid was a 1/2 mile i think and the benz even won that, before anyone asks yes you could see the m5's engine in sport along with the other 2 and it showed it in 4wd sport also. and i like both cars

User avatar

Monolith29  8m ago

the first tested review of the new m5 had 0-60 in 3.1 0-100 in 7.1 and 11.2 1/4 mile

User avatar

rhs1992  8m ago

Unbelievable numbers for new M5
2.8s to 60, 6.6 to 100
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-bmw-m5-test-review

User avatar

DeDe  8m ago

Add 0.2 s for the rollout and another 0.2 for the gap between 60 and 62 mph (100 kph).

Bammm, 0-100 kph in 3,2 s. As fast as Panamera Turbo S, a tenth quicker than E63 S' best.

User avatar

Fastedee  8m ago

They also tested it in rwd mode.
0-60 3.5
Quarter mile 11.6 126 mph
Almost identical to CTS V and DB11 showing Americans rates exact crank power but Aston and Germans underrate.

User avatar

hostboy  8m ago

That M5 is NOT stock! Car & Driver constantly lie about their cars. Motor Trend got an 11.3 sec at 124.1 mph.

User avatar

hostboy  8m ago

My girlfriend owns the new M5, she got 3.2 0-60 in AWD mode and 3.8 0-60 in RWD mode the first time she tried the car. It won't go any better than 3.1, even with a 1-foot rollout. On a dragstrip it ran an 11.21 at 122.10.

User avatar

hostboy  8m ago

I'm sorry but the M5 isn't any faster than the CTS-V or the Hellcat. Even the CTS-V and Audi RS6 dating back to 2008 would treat the new M5 like a mouse.

User avatar

Fastedee  8m ago @hostboy

Hellcat with awd would be quicker.

User avatar

@hostboy I doubt your girlfriend owns the new M5.

User avatar

@hostboy And Motor Trend never tested the performance/acceleration data and 1/4 mile on the M5 F90.
And the 2008 Cadillac or RS6 would not be faster.
Why do you hate BMW so much you must resort to lying??

User avatar

E63s is quicker then the M5

I don't know. Just don't find it neccesary and special anymore. 600hp, huge launch AWD, and it's still no where as fast as Tesla performance cars. Might as well concentrate on making the cars exciting and exhilarating or luxurious or shouty.

User avatar

Hans  1y ago

No one cares about shitty Tesla. Form me Tesla can fly and I would still take this M5.

User avatar

cosimo  1y ago

or maybe a tesla with a tremec shifter out of a dodge truck with diesel tech to give you that extra bang sound blowing out black smoke warning pedestrians that you're about to pass by the block lol

are you one of those green activists that waves those stupid flags to save the earth ? because i'm thinking of running over you with a bulldozer and wouldn't care if you made it out alive or not.

User avatar

priorty  1y ago

First run tesla around the track, then come back here to talk about new M5. You just compare straight line performance data and think that it gives you the whole picture of cars. Once you hit the track, you will learn that M5 corners much better and that Tesla overheats really fast, while pushed really hard. When it overheats, system cut the power down to 60%! So Tesla is simply not a sport car. Look beyond data sheets.

User avatar

saxy  1y ago @priorty

Lol you should watch the video of the tesla going down the back straight of Nurburgring. Power was cut to just 160hp. A Toyota Corolla would our accelerate it at that oiint

User avatar

Inline 6 rules  1y ago

The new M5. Will be available from September. Despite it's AWD it's 15 kg lighter than the previous generation.
Power is 600 PS at 5600-6700 rpm, torque is 750 Nm at 1800-5600 rpm.
It gets the ZF's popular 8 speed automatic instead of BMW's own 7 speed dual-clutch automatic. It's ironic that "simple" automatic gearboxes have developed so much in the last few years that many sport cars uses them instead of dual-clutch automatics.
BMW says the biggest improvement is the AWD system and the new gearbox, they make the biggest part of being faster than the previous generation, not the more powerful engine.
Top speed is 305 kph, 0-100 kph: 3,4 s.

User avatar

Hans  1y ago

Dual clutch can't be used probably because of AWD system.

User avatar

Hans  1y ago

Dual clutch can't be used probably because of AWD system.

User avatar

saxy  1y ago @Hans

Plenty of cars that are AWD have DCTs.
It has an auto ZF because it's 99.999% of the time will be on public roads in traffic and driven like normal cars. Autos are much better for normal driving. And besides, like the Alfa quad, these gearboxes are no slouch anyways for track use.

User avatar

Hans  1y ago @saxy

Blah blah blah... Awd and Rwd is something different and BMW didn't want to west time to made DCT that would fit to the new AWD system... ZF was much cheaper choice and still great box.

User avatar

Hugo  9m ago @Hans

What about 911 Turbo, Lambo LP-610, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 just to mention 4 cars wtih DCT and AWD ...

User avatar

FastestLaps  9m ago @Hans

Yeah, those latest ZF models are getting great reviews and some journous are almost claiming that they are better than dual clutches.

User avatar

kyne29  8m ago @Hans

they saw how bad the reviews were for the m6 and its 7spd dct, it was just a terrible car to cruise in. not to mention everyone is right about the 8spds and whatnot getting almost as fast while being fantastic for cruising or long distance driving
