15 Honda reveals production NSX

Cover for Honda reveals production NSX

It has been 10 years since the last Honda NSX rolled off the production line in Suzuka, Japan. The decision to stop production was based on weak sales in the final years of production.

In late 2005 or early 2006 a car enthusiast with $100k to spend on a fast car was spoiled with choice. Why spend all that money on a V6 Honda when you can have the brand new 500 horsepower V8 C6 Corvette Z06 for less?

It was similar to the choice that American car buyers had in 1960s when smaller, less powerful European or Japanese sportscars were priced higher than domestic V8 muscle cars.

Despite the many arguments against buying the apparently less bang-per-buck product from Japan, JDM fans and die-hard automotive enthusiasts around the world did not give up on the idea of a Honda supercar and called for a new, re-imagined incarnation of the mid-engine Japanese sportscar which had earned a reputation for being one of the finest handling cars at the time of it's production, and proved in numerous Best Motoring videos, that, on a race-track, it can keep up with most of the more powerful European competition.

Exactly 10 years later Honda have finally answered these calls, revealing to the public, for the first time, the final production version of the Honda/Acura NSX.

NSX version 2.0 differs from 1.0 in so many ways that only the name, the mid-engine layout and cylinder configuration and and 2-door two seat body type are all that's in common with the NSX 1.0 that was revealed as early as 1989.

This NSX, obviously, no longer complies with any 280 horsepower "gentleman's agreements" and introduces a far more competitive 550 horsepower output from a V6 engine which, also unlike the predecessor, is turbo-charged as well as augmented by an electric motor, supposedly, for improved low rpm response and fuel economy.

What distinguishes the new car even more are the twin electric motors driving front wheels. This makes the new NSX an all wheel drive vehicle - a change that might disappoint some of the purists.

Powerful forced induction V6 and all wheel drive are features most of us associate with Nissan GT-R, and there is no denying that the Honda/Acura NSX will be compared with the Nissan GT-R in countless media tests, despite the obvious difference of the NSX being a hybrid.

Hybrid or not, public will be expecting nothing less than excellence in handling for the new NSX. Track performance was exactly what made the first generation car special. It also established Honda as a company that designs fine handling and finely balanced performance road cars, and automotive community will be expecting nothing less from the reborn NSX, despite the fact it will be made in USA, which is another change that will likely upset the more conservative of Honda fans.

Yes, We need another Nsx, And have been neding one, Nor will it be cheap, They never have, And Not really on Awd an Lc, But in the real world, 0-60Mph is more concerning then track performance, Considering the numbers, Id say a ZO6, Of any generation is amazing in straight line speed. And no, We dont have enough Lambo copycats..

0-60 times a quarter mile? Lol in that case everyone would want Awd with cleaver launch control. Not a track focussed Z06, precisely something not good at straight line speed

This car will be expensive and just because of that will get picked over many of its competition I would say probably about 150-200k, and yet a car like the zo6 or gtr will probably be discarded because they will be much cheaper but in reality all anybody really cares about is 0-60 or quarter mile times which a tuned zo6 or tuned gtr would predictably destroy the NSx. We already have enough lambo copycats , do we really need another like the NSx ?

Speaking of tradition... I remember an old magazine issue from 1990 where there was a comparison test between nsx & ferrari 348. Ferrari had the "soul" but nsx was "the future" (easy to drive, ABS etc.). But since honda didn't really evolve the car and because of some harcore versions (NSXR) it has stick to our heads as the pure, classic... Not really, in my opinion nsx must be a breakthrough, something that other car manufacturers (like ford) won't be able to make.

Its certainly not a bad car, Nor is it gonna be, But it shouldnt have been a Nsx. Maybe An Asx, Acuras Pure version of a Luxury Nsx, While Honda can make the Race Nsx. The similiarities would be like the S Class vs the C Class.

Awd for the Acura, Rwd for the Honda, 9 speed Acura, 8 Speed Honda etc etc.

And for me being HUGE on tradition and roots, It shouldnt be Awd or turbo, Love that they used a V6 though with similar liters though, But This isnt what the Nsx was, Or was about, I know its a new generation, But other then the V6, It doesnt continue its heritage, And thats my biggest problem with this car, Besides the Acura badge.

Finally some free time so I can be here in this site. :)
By the way I don't think it's a bad car, it's just maybe too different than the previous generation. AWD + Hybrid + Turbo, I'm OK with the turbo and even with being hybrid but AWD? Wouldn't makes it too heavy? It should have an RWD version with lower weight.
The gearbox is said to be a 9 speed dual clutch automatic.

..Theres already a Acura TSX...

Im all for new, But regarding a cars new generation, It shouldnt get rid what made it so good, It should stck too its roots, And evolve them rather then throw them away in exchange for something new, New or expensive certainly isnt always better, Can be, But isnt always. Hybids are the future yes, But the present is here, The Acura ersion should have Awd, A Honda versions shouldnt. But im glad they stuck with a V6 rather then a V10.

@196ss NSX and us FORD GT fans need to start some kind of association. :)
"The car itself is not bad, just it should have another name, TSX may be."

Oh no, it's a freaking hybrid!!! (Facepalm)

So agree. The design doesn't follow the steps of the old NSX, and more like something came from the Volkswagen group. The drivetrain also doesn't have any of the NSX DNA,, AWD meh, Hybrid, meh. So, they should have call it N0TNSX-H,

I admit, I was one of those who most loudly shouted that it was time to revive the NSX, but now I fill disappointment. The car itself is not bad, just it should have another name, TSX may be.
