Sometimes I actually think about getting one of these. But then again I don't wanna know how high the maintenance is on these.

CTS-V competition

Although the LSA CTS-V2 was more powerful on paper, its supercharger and carbon ceramic brakes put a toll to its straight-line performance ("only" 4 mph faster than LS2 CTS-V1 in both the quarter-mile trap speed and maximum speed departments) as they added extra weight and bulkier aerodynamics to the car. But at least it did GREAT on the track!

@ BR2+: OMG, that is an awesome looking car! It's a crying shame Cadillac will most likely never put it into production. If it were me, I'd make a couple changes, larger headlights, more powerful engine, 4.5 liters is awfully small for an American V8, but I recall Cadillac once making a 4.1 liter V8, I'd like to see this with about 600 horsepower. This car, the Elmiraj is really beautiful, refined and classy, they should put it into production.

@BR2
Yeah, the best we can hope for is to see design cues from the concepts in the production cars. Like every modern Caddillac non-SUV was obviously inspired by the Sixteen concept, and the XLR, for all its crappiness, was directly based on the Evoq. Caddy does have a new land yacht planned(bigger than the XTS), and the Elmiraj may be a preview of its size and what it might look like(though it certainly won't be a coupe).
As for the price, the interior of the Elmiraj alone is worth about $100k. It doesn't look to have any carbon fiber bits and it's based on an existing chassis, so that would save some money in production costs, but it also has an exclusive engine, which will drive up costs. No way a car like this would come in anywhere under $200k, providing it didn't become some watered-down, disappointing mass of compromises upon reaching production.

Elmiraj.. not a very pleasant sounding name.
Anyway, I'm pretty much amused with this concept! I'm tempted to say that, but the silhouette of this Caddy is so elegant, so clean! The profile is just lovely! It pretty much reminds me a Ciel, just a hardtop version. And the yacht-interior is in the highest class. But no, they had to ruin the whole schick with that front end... I have an impression that Cadillac simply cannot make proper nice headlights... And why did they change the logo??? The previous looked so classy... Now it can be mistaken with the Chinese Geely Emgrand, which is certainly not a compliment.
Overall, not too bad, probably the best looking Cadillac concept in recent years. And the engine is pretty much impressive, 500 PS is just right.
However, still, I wish Caddy already introduced the new Eldorado, or Allante. Using modern design elements combined with true Retro, Cadillac is famous for. I wish to see that prestigious Cadillac flagman, being a competitor with Continental GT W12, and maybe even with Mulsanne. And get a big twin-turbo V8 generating 600+ PS and 800+ Nm, and weighing below two tonnes. And you got the ideal Cadillac. Shame, this will never happen...

BR2+ 13y ago
Your most likely right, Caddilac prolly wont put this into production.
Cien, Evoq, Sixteen, Ciel, ELR, wont/never made it to production, which is a damn shame, all Gorgeous cars packing serious thunder, in and out,(Not really a fan of there names though) but nonetheless truly brilliant designs.
Im actually not sue about the engine though, not sure if I would have gone with a 4.5, Also, if this were to go into producton, I don't think it would be quite that much, 80k at the max, but maybe thas what Caddy needs, a big comfy 100k car, doubt it though. I also cant stand those people who would chose a car simply for a Badge, that really pisses me off, May be good for sales and "Maybe" brand, but still gets me heated.
@Super
Yes, its the Elmiraj

No, Too flat.

But what I'm REALLY interested in is that 4.5L twin-turbo V8 the Elmiraj is packing under the hood. Reports say it's based on the turbo'd 3.6L V6 in the upcoming CTS-Vsport, but I'm thinking more along the lines of lower-displacement LT1 from the Stingray. Seems like it would be less work to make a less bored-out LT1, than to turn a V6 into a V8. But either way, it's a brand new engine that could very well see production because it's not something outrageous, like a 9000rpm V12 or a 13.6L V16. So even if we'll never see an Elmirag on the streets, it would be a crime for that engine not to find its way into a production car. Next CTS-V, perhaps? It would need more than 500hp to compete with any rivals, but that's just a matter of upping the boost.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Cadillac makes the best concept cars of any American manufacturer, past or present, period. Easily ranking amongst the best in the world, really. The Sixteen, the Cien, Ciel and now the Elmiraj. Hell, even their little Prius-ish thing, the ULC(Urban Luxury Concept)looked great for what it was(but because of what it was, I hated it).
Unfortunately, cars like the Elmiraj will likely never see the light of day. Not while Cadillac, and GM as a whole, is still trying to make up for decades of crappy cars, all while fighting the general perceptions of American cars overseas both overseas and in their own backyard. Putting something like this into production would be too costly, considering there's little prospect for a payoff. Regardless of how awesome it would be, the Elmiraj would likely end up as a flop simply because no one would give it a chance. Offer some random person the keys to this or a Continental GT, and I almost guarantee they'd pick the Bentley, because it's a Bentley.

There are alot of options that could add or save weight, but going from very low 4000Lbs to 4400Lbs seems a bit much..But again, im not fully aware of how full the liquids could have been, or if there was somebody in the car etc etc
Same with the weights of the Carrera GT, some were as low as 3058Lbs to 3600Lbs+, i know Porsch has an extensive option list(Prolly no different for a Carrera GT) But still, id like to know whey there are HUGE variable in weights for some cars.

monkeypop 13y ago
There is a lot of options that I think could drastically effect weight. The standard seats for example are both power and are ventilated, some heavy bastards. The Recaro seat option shaves quite a bit of weight but I'm not sure how much. All I know is the Recaro seats where a hell of alot easier to pick up than the standard ventilated seats that came with mine.

BR2' 13y ago
There are Alot of different weight figures with this CTS, I think under 4000Lbs was the lightest i herd, and just over 4400Lbs was the heaviest, the one i listed, 4130Lbs was the lightest (That ive actually looked for) And we here use the lightest weights recorded.
I went to the Caddilac USA page And Starting at $64,515-$74,870, I added all the options and checked to see, and i do not see how all those options could add up too 300+Lbs on the V, Safety kit/Wood Trim/Power Sunroof/Tranny, were the heaviest options there, and i dont see those adding 300+Lbs, So ive no idea were 4400+Lbs comes from where tested, Unless there filling EVERYTHING Liquid up to the brim, and counting the driver and possibly safety and video equipment and maybe even luggage.
But, Since 1873Kg is the lightest shown, thats the one we should use.
Still maintain this has a better interior the the F10 M5, And looks Damned good all blacked out.
And Unfortunetley, a CTS-V here will run you £70,000, Which i find abit high, still 4k less then an M5, but still.

CoolShirtGuy 13y ago
The Cadillac website lists the V sedan's weight at 4220lbs for the manual and 4253 for the automatic. Manufacturer numbers are almost never supported by reviews, but the 4356lbs listed on this page just seems way too high.
Also, I don't remember where I saw it, but wasn't the CTS-V once reported to come in at just under 3900lbs? Maybe it was from something before the V went into production, but I know I saw it somewhere.

BR2' 13y ago
@Monkey
That weight is for the 6-Speed Manual, As such, we only use the Lightest weight, same as best performance numbers, i couldnt find a lighter weight(Well i havent actually looked-_-)

monkeypop 13y ago
Indeed.. the flat black just makes the car look so much more menacing. For some reason the body lines stand out more with a satin finish. Only reason I've not done it is partly because of the time I wouldnt have the car and partly because a flat finish really needs to be done by a expert or it can turn out uneven.

Edge-shape is awesome. Coupe looks bad, but wagon is absolutely awesome. The autotran is rubbish, to0 big shifting delays for such a car.
