The truth is, McLaren have perfect technology to create very fast 4 seater. Rival to Panamera Turbo S

12C is very versatile car in terms of ride comfort - from super soft to track based.

12C is safe and fast car, its ride controll is also very safe, its almost takes of some drivers pleasure. So it fir perfect for 4 seater.

Aside from getting 4 passengers from point A to B :)

Id have no problem taking an M over this, This thing is not a looker, And I think Bmw/Audi/MB are getting rather ridiculous in not stating the REAL power of there cars, Really unfair when there putting a lot more then advertised, But that's not bad for a consumer. And an F12 will crush ANY Bmw, Lets just get that out of the way.

M6 Competition Package is very fast. It is said that it delivers about 630-640 hp for real. From the other side i have read on Ferrarichat that customers F12 delivers about 650 hp...So these cars should have similiar straight line acceleration (M6 is about 150-200 kgs heavier). If it is truth it wont be a good thing for a Ferrari.

All M cars have always been fast but not fast as supercars. (obvious since there's more seats, more leather, more luxuries)

@Thiago_Lins mayby Ferrari still give the letters in supercars segment...

But performance also is importants. Especially nowadays when even BMW M6 CP is so quick.

Excellent comments. I think that despite the new name (it does solve some owner issues) that this is indeed a facelift of the 12C. As such, it still looks exotic car good. I look forward to seeing some in the Napa Valley when the well heeled go wine tasting. The Ferrari 458 is certainly a fine looking exotic as well, but the McLaren holds up well in person as far as styling goes(I drove next to a 12C for a fair bit last year). The new Lamborghini is probably going to be popular as well, with fine style. I am sure that with time, we will have some lap times out in order to quantify their respective performance. The more good looking, fast, exotic sports cars around the better. I cannot afford one at this time, but I am glad they exist. :)

@dddd

But the life of a supercar is not made only of "pure performance", but the interaction with the driver / pilot, dynamics and emotion ... And these three aspects, the 12C can not follow the Ferrari, even the Italian beast being less potent.

By launching the 650 S, one untrained car (front one, with back of another), McLaren demonstrates their desperation against Ferrari 458 Speciale.

Ferrari looks set to continue to give the letters in the supercar segment.

Omg...Ferrari will be oblitereted in every performance test nowadays...Customers 458s do not stand a chance even with 600 hp Mp4...Ferrari does not even have 10s car in production (not saying about Laferrari, mayby it will be 10s car)...I dont understand why Ferrari produces the slowest sport cars...the slowest but the most expensive. It is interesting.

So it seems that Mclaren has just won.

And i dont like it coze im a fan of Ferrari...but the truth is that Ferrari does not have a car that is able to compete even with Mp4 in terms of performance.

To be honest, this isn't really a new car, but just a facelift of the 12C. However, they couldn't call it the 12C anymore because Mclaren promised free upgrades on early models of the 12C. My friend had his upgraded to 616hp (he also had to bring it to the shop some 20 times to fix). The point is, if they kept the 12C name, they'd have to keep spending money and resources on old customers. Changing the name gets by all the trouble.

I guess what happening is that the new mclaren cars will have the new mclaren design language which made its debute on the P1? This car looks fine if you look at it that way i guess. I hate the dull name. And this is suppose to be a second model in the lineup so i dont think it competes against the 458 speciale since this is just as luxurious as the 12c. Think of it as their flagship production model i guess.

Lazy design, and lazy naming... come on McLaren... If it's a new car/model, then shouldn't it look new?
I hate these "fit between models" cars.
  6 months ago
Agree, All you see is P1 in the front. And MP4 everywhere else. I think they just got lazy in the design. And the name is so plain. Id take a MP4 over a 458, But id take a Speciale over a 650S...Strange..

this thing looks way too much like a p1.

an extreme car, such as the p1 should have a unique look and shouldnt be reflected in a smaller car

You can have function and looks all in one, Just look at the 918 or S7, Both are damned good looking cars that produce huge amounts of DF, Yet there pretty, I honestly don't under stand why you cant combine good looks and racing abilitys, I know looks are as subjective as anything, but still.

@Flab

Yes I agree, McLaren names there cars rather stupid, and too short, Hell even Lotus names there car with more spirit, and all there cars start with E..650S?...That's it..?

Was too inharmonious. Looked like kludge. Put forward a fluid and rounded car as P1 in a car with a more straight look like 12C. Terrible, could have spent more time in the lab ... It despair against Ferrari 458 Speciale?

It will be bloody fast for sure...but i still would take 458 or 458 Speciale (high quality, speed and great driving pleasure - specific for Ferrari) over it and 991 Turbo (S is not a must) over Mc also...
  6 months ago
I'd rather have an MP4 yet...

Price is claimed to be between 240.000 €, around 30.000 € more than a MP4, and over 300.000 €. I think it will be around 250.000 €
