The GT is quite fast, but the long gearing makes it hard to accelerate, but revving at torque levels (professionally/like a racecar driver) on a prepped dragstrip could get you very quick acceleration times, so 0-60 mph sprint times could range anywhere from 3.3 to 5.2 seconds for the GT (depending on the driver and stunt), whereas the Corvette would range from 3.4 to 4.8. In theory anyway. ;)

people on youtube needs to see this so they can stop saying the GT is faster than a ZR1.

At straight line there's no doubt that the Ford Gt is quicker, but at the track, the Z06 is a little bit quicker, anyways the lap time at Nurburgring is not a fair point to compare

The problem with these stats is that the cars are not in their same year. The Ford GT's correct nurburgring lap time was 7:40.6 secs not 7:52. If they had the stats for a 2005 2006 Z06 vs. the GT in the same year, on most if not all race tracks the GT was faster. The 07 08 09 and 2010 Z06 have made improvements. You gotta remember, production ended in 06 for the Ford GT. Basically, back in 2005 2006, the Ford GT was faster.

@viking: i;m just saying i felt it and it was not a big deal but it wasn\'t as planted as many of other cars that i\'ve driven and those small things make up 5 seconds in a track.
and being faster than ZO6 is something that most of the hypercars in that time couldn\'t achieve...i mean vettes are allways great:D

VIR is bias to the Z06. The GT was faster around that track, but the Z06 got a rerun and set the 2:58.
Only other same days I recall are Chrysler proving grounds (beat up high milage GT), and Vairano. I think there was one other but I don\'t remember which.

Ford GT has aerodynamics of 60s Le Mans racer and in 60s Le Mans was pretty much one big straight.
GT is a true supercar but let\'s not forget that beating supercars is what Corvette Z06 does best. It is American equivalent of a Nissan GT-R.

Thanks vette for the first hand knowledge on the Ford GT. Yeah, an unstable mid-engine car would be very hard to drive on most race courses. The early MR2 turbos had a similar problem. It is too bad since I think that the Ford GT has great styling and presence. With Corvettes you always know that the rear is loose and therefore are ready to compensate. The Vette is thus fairly easy to drive in competition once you get used to its behavior.

It seems pretty clear that the Corvette Z06 is faster than the Ford GT on most racetracks. Which brings to mind, why? They have similar acceleration, and the mid-engine placement of the GT should provide more bite for the rear tires coming out of corners and better balance for braking hard going into corners. Is there too much understeer dialed into the GT? I\'ve raced Corvettes and they tend to be a bit loose in the rear (oversteer) and thus challenging to drive quickly, requiring both patience exiting corners and fast reflexes to countersteer when necessary. Maybe the GT suspension has too much push (understeer)?
