....A Focus RS or Golf R is definitely not low key, Specially if your a car guy/girl. Hell if one is a car guy can any stock car actually be lowkey?..

User avatar

tina  1m

The focus rs is a bit flash. I like the dullness and low keyness of the golf R.

Frankly no turbo charged engine is good above 5000 rpm, exceptions seen are Golfs 2.0 TSi and Type Rs 2.0 iVtec turbo. Renaults ,PSA,Nissan,BMW all other 2.0 turbos I have driven felt soft post 5000 rpm,

I drive a Fiesta ST and even in Fiesta ST progress past 5000 rpm is slow.

Now I agree it has drag, but the bigger issue for not accelarating post 110 mph is
1. High kerb weight in short wheel base
2. The GKN, RDU dosent decouple fully like in some other AWD systems, so there is the AWD system drag along with the differential limitation, thats the reason why its accelsration is poor post 100 mph,

User avatar

wint  2m

I am a ford dealer and all the lads here know the 2.3 ecoboost engine is useless over 5000 rpm. also the drag on this car is dreadfull over 110mph. the wing slows this car down a lot. far better get the fiesta st , we sell at least 100 st fiestas to these rs focus cars. the birds love the st here. the focus rs are good cars to look at we feel.

"Describing RS drivers as kids washing cars" is mocking, in case you didnt notice

I didnt say some one should worship the Ford brand or RS,

I really dont understand why a lot are so much interested in mocking Ford cars and their owners

I came from Hondas and Suzukis and now drives a Fiesta ST and love it, but I too get this crappy mocking a lot of times for which I pay off with a middle finger, no hate speeches or no fights, but even in the internet, its there , so just for that reason I protested.

User avatar

BR2+  2m

Just because somebody doesn't worship the tarmac the car drives on, Or doesn't say everything positive about it doesn't mean they hate the car or company..

User avatar

Somebody  2m

Whats wrong with you?
U seem to hate the Ford brand for some reason, and you are the one who is acting like a stupid kid, drive your tri cycle and have funKID

User avatar

sid  2m

like how many focus rs drivers are going to track there car, I would hate to think of stone chips and wearing the tyres out in an hour. most rs drivers are like little kids washing and cleaning there car when they get home.

User avatar

Constantine  2m

Somebody thanks man. These times are much more reasonable as the cars are completely stock by the manufacturers with a simple test cars driver. So, professional race drivers behind the prototype wheels and unknown configuration of the prototype cars.....

User avatar

Somebody  2m

BR2+
Totally agree with that,
The Golf GTi Clubsport S however was stock and VW guys checked ambient temperature, road temperature, and air density before settong the 7:47 lap time which means it was meant to do that, still 7:47 for a FWD car is insane.

I appreciate VWs engineering with the Clubsport S, it really is the 911 GT3 RS of hot hatches,

Ford,Honda,Renault, psa all have long way to go to fight VW, its too awesome now.

User avatar

BR2+  2m

1: You cant use the Type Rs Ring time as it wasnt stock.

2: Simply because a car is the fastest, In no way means its the best hot hatch on earth..

3: Can the RS break 8 mins? Yeah, I dont see any reason to think it cant, Hell a 3:03 at VIR is an indication, ALthough i dont think the RS should be this super focused car, It should focus more on the real aspects of a Hot Hatch, Affordability, Fun, Comfort while not being real extreme.

User avatar

Somebody  2m

For more info
These are Christians lap times
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/rundenzeiten/supertests/?p=5

the RS is 5s slower than the BMW M2 and almost 10s faster than Leon Cupra SC 280,Golf 7R and Type R around the ring in his hands

I think with a professional driver and set of new tires the RS will be able to crack the sub 8 min time, I guess a 7:54-56.xx is possible with the RS, still I dont think the RS can break the Golf GTI Clubsport S, that thing is superb, easily the best hot hatch on earth

Hats off to VW for building such an amazing FWD car, Honda,Renault,Ford,PSA etc are nothing before mighty VW

User avatar

saxy  2m

The Focus RS albeit heavy is very track focused. 350hp, AWD with LSD and etc it's going to be fast. Some 10s faster than a golf R at VIR? Although probably on a more aggressive tire.

It's a good car. Just too bad it's too difficult to live with for me

Constantine
He might have used it we dont know
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/supertest/honda-civic-type-r-im-supertest-10888778.html
See the Type Rs best lap time was 7:50 but the driver is Matt Neal triple BTCC champion and Honda havent yet fully revealed whether car was completely stock, same case with ClubSport S as well the driver is previous FIA racing driver,
Christian Gethartdbt is just a car tester, his best lap time so far for Civic Type R is 8:15,
I think U are getting my point,
In the website I ve posted above, U can check lap times of lot of other cars in the super test link, there U ll find a lot of cars lap times that compete with RS much slower than ones put by manufacturers,
In that sense the Focus RS, 8:06 is incrrdible and is actually faster than most of its rivals like Type R,Golf 7R,BMW M235i, Leon Cupra etc etc..

User avatar

Constantine  2m

Watching the video of the RS in the ring, he goes so fast and the car seems so stable on the road and the driver very calm. And was thinking if he was run with driving adds...... because how else he keeps the cars so stable on the road with so many km...... I don't say that it is easy to go like this even with those systems....

User avatar

Constantine  2m

I don't say that it is bad. I was just curious because hatch back cars have get to fast in the track. 7:49 for clubsport,, 7:50 for Type R, 7:58 for Leon, 7:54 for Megane Trothy R, 8:05 for Rs..... They have get faster than many supercars and i was just wondering.... Is this possible?

User avatar

FastestLaps  2m

18 meter slalom test is usually tested with ESP on and off and both results published. However, when I add them to Fastestlaps.com I usually add both results but don't specify which one was with ESP on and off. What netters is best result and the spread between fastest and slowest result. And average.

As far as laptimes - I think most testers quickly find out which settings are fastest or at least feel best and then go for a timed lap. So you can assume that all laptimes are measured with "optimal" settings.

User avatar

BR2+  2m

It all depends on the driver, But does it matter?

User avatar

Constantine  2m

This car have: Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS And Driveline Traction Control. Do the drivers, in all cars not just this one, test the cars with those safety controls or they disable them and test the cars without those driving adds?

User avatar

Constantine  2m

I mean traction control, ESP, whatever this car probably have....

User avatar

Somebody  2m

@Constantine
What do you mean with factory driving adds?

All cars tested by Sport auto are bone stock, no mods nothing, even tires are factory stuff no fitting of new tires even,

SO these are real life lap times

User avatar

Constantine  2m

Yes it is amazing lap time indeed. Of course the driver skills is what matters most, but my question remains.... Do they test the cars with factory driving adds or free without them...

User avatar

Somebody  2m

Constantine
It was Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s in the RS

The drivers skill is what matters most

for comparison with the time he set with its rivals like Type R,Golf 7R etc visit this web page
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/supertest/honda-civic-type-r-im-supertest-10888778.html
These are real life lap times drives can manage
The 7:47 by ClubSport S too is incredibly difficult for even some hardcore car fanatics to build

SO I guess 8:06 by the RS is incredible lap time for a 1575+kg AWD hatch back

User avatar

Constantine  2m

i speak for the time in Nürburgring Nordschleife...

User avatar

Constantine  2m

Anyone know what type of tyres he used for the test to do 8:06 and if he run with driving adds?

User avatar

FastestLaps  2m

@Somebody, both lap times are correct.

1:14.20 was published in Sport Auto January 2017 Ford Focus RS "super test" and driven by Christian Gebhardt.
1:15.2 was published in Sport Auto September 2016 issue as part of the "Grosse Haie Kleine Fische" hot hatch comparison.

You can see both if you click on the "Best" button above laptime table and select "All".

User avatar

Somebody  2m

1:14.20 at Hockenheimring?
I saw a best of 1:15.20 last time,
So which one is valid?

User avatar

Somebody  3m

Nordschleife
RS did a 8:06.29
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpAwycn03JE

User avatar

Somebody  4m

no where
Thats exactly why a Focus RS gives Ford such an important brand image

Just like the C63 AMG and the E63 AMG, the Audi S3 the Audi RS3, the Audi RSQ3, all are shopping trolleys only, its just that they have been beefed up to give sports car thrills while still maintaining usability

User avatar

BR2+  4m

...Isnt that a good thing that you can have the daily ability of a grocery getter and people carrier and have that kind of performance in an affordable good looking car?..
