I just bougt one Touareg 2003 V8 an it is spending in long distance driving 14liters per 100 km and in town 19 liters per 100 km. That is not much if you compair to other suv.

Well.........I agree but we don't get diesels in the middle east. Even if we get, no one will buy it unlike europe and post-recession USA. I mentioned that petrol is cheaper than water here. So, there is no need for diesels.

V8 is wonderful but for a big and heavy car petrol engine just doesn't make sense. At least for me. And as far as technology goes that V6 TDI is far better than a conventional V8.

In the USA I drove the 2004 V8 version for 6 years, recently replacing it with the V6 TDi version. What TORQUE this engine has, with a great fuel economy improvement as a bonus. The wonderful Audi 4.2L V8 is no longer offered, only the turbodiesel and the anemic, V6 gasoline engines. I averaged 18 mpg in the V8 over six years, nearly all highway miles.

at 11/2009 VW has phased out lot of engines for the Touareg in Germany because it reach it´s production end...
R50, V10TDI, V6 TDI Blue Motion, 2.5l inline5 TDI, W12, V8 are all history... not because of poor sales, because of fleet emission level... if you want a high power Touareg in Europe buy a Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7

The V8 is currenly not available in Europe due to poor sales.
To Fastestlaps - Isn't the V10 Diesel not performing well in Europe ?
Georg 16y ago
the V8 was avaible everywhere ... first with 310hp later with 350hp...
The W12 was first limited to 500 with 330 sold in the middle east the rest in europe, because of the high demand they put the W12 into the normal production run it was avaible till 11/2009... a friend of me owned a Touareg W12 in black some years ago.

Here in the middle east, petrol is cheaper than water. So, most of the cars sold here are V8's and V12's and W12's. About 98% of cars sold here are of Automatic Transmission. http://www.drivearabia.com/ultimatecarbuyerguide/carpage.php/Volkswagen-Touareg/2007-2008-2009-2010-/417

Never knew that Touareg was offered with petrol V8, not to mention W12. 99.99 percent of Touaregs here in Europe (or at least where I live) are V6 turbodiesels. And it makes sense.
