I really can't stress this enough, this is probably the best car Mercedes (and probably even McLaren) ever built. Just the sheer presence of this car gives me goosebumps.

Theoretical vmax is anywhere between 208-211 mph, but this will need a really long stretch of a road and a professional driver on the track. On a regular basis it should top 201 mph. This may be why today, automakers are very relatively conservative with top speed claims, limited or not.

0-60 is done in 3.4 seconds, and that's including the rollout as well, so 3.1 without it. 1/4-mile is done in 11.48 sec, or 11.23 without rollout, @ 125.15 mph (C&D got 11.6 @ 125 without rollout) -- corrected to 128.65 mph to account for shifting between gears 3-4. That being said, the SLR can occasionally trap as high as 132 mph (!!!), but that will require a dragstrip in a weather/altitude-uncorrected setting. But the car is much heavier in gears 1-4 than it is in gear 5 (overdrive), and it basically has no downforce at all -- pretty much the polar opposite of, say, a Porsche Carrera GT, a Ferrari Enzo, or even a Ford GT.

0-150 mph in 17.25 seconds, very close to the 16.9 from published data on this page.

People like to compare the SLR to cars like the Enzo and Carrera GT, but it's actually a competitor for the Murcielago, S7, and 599 GTB Fiorano.

User avatar

Age and technology considered, I think it's pretty crazy that a 911 Carrera S can get a similar quarter mile time like this car.

Mclaren SLR variant with 5 speed MANUAL gearbox, even I didn't know or forget!

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/slr/16999/mercedes-slr-mclaren

So coupe plus convertible plus engine upgrade and Brabus fitted the 7 speed Mercedes transmission to it's V12 cars, there's no reason it can't be retrofitted!

Choose you're mix!

New and corrected results (by the way, I increased the "maximum (peak) power" to 100rpm above the car's redline, possibly its fuel cut-off, to get rid of that sixth-gear nonsense):
0-100km/h in 3"80
0-200km/h in 9"96
0-300km/h in 27"62
Top speed of 340.1772km/h

Probably not the most accurate numbers out there. If we increase driveline efficiency to 1 (from 0.85) and rolling resistance to 0.058 (from 0.011), we should get a very similar top speed; revert driveline efficiency back to 0.85 and we get 310.6544km/h. Decreasing the ambient air density to 0.930 (from 1.202) results in a top speed of 340.153km/h. In order to get back that 3.8sec 0-100km/h time, one must increase the static friction coefficient to 1.175.

Therefore:
0-100km/h in 3"80
0-200km/h in 10"50
0-300km/h in 29"99
Top speed of 340.3311km/h

I originally tried this simulation with a 3.06 gear ratio, but unfortunately it limited the car's top speed to somewhere in the 195mph (310km/h) range without entering an imaginary (nonexistent) sixth gear. I swapped it with a 2.305 gear ratio and the top speed is much more believable. With a 3.06 ratio, 0-100km/h timing will drop slightly from 3.80sec to 3.78sec; instead of 10.82sec, 0-200km/h will be 10.46sec; instead of 31.79sec, 0-300km/h will be 29.30sec.

Autocar and Motor test results>

MPH

0-60= 3.8 seconds
0-100= 7.6 seconds
0-150= 16.4 seconds

I benchmarked 0-60 and 0-100MPH with Motortend magazine. 0-100MPH is EXACTLY the same. But Autocar are quicker because of rollout.

Unfortunately no scans. Any mistakes, let us know. ;)

Edit: It's definitely worth a read. Metrics without context are dull and useless.

And REMEMBER that Aston Martin/Mercedes AMG has been in collaboration for a few years now. This is what happens when German and English giants collaborate! McLaren/BMW with the GOAT F1. And the forthcomig Mercedes Amg One/Brixworth.
