It's not as big of a gap as you might think. First, the Viper is a stick-shift with rear-wheel drive. Second, the gap between 1/8-mile and 1/2-mile says a lot about how quick the Huracan really is, and trust me, it's not really that quick compared to the Viper. Also, there is NO WAY a Huracan is getting 36 MPG at all under any circumstance.
Using just the four non-overdrive gear ratios of the Viper -> (2.26/1.58/1.19/1)/4 -> it takes 300ms to shift gears (I'll use 600ms in this case scenario), versus the published 120ms for the Huracan.
The Viper, according to my knowledge, reaches 65mph in first gear, 95mph in second gear, 130mph in third gear, and 160mph in fourth gear. The Huracan reaches 45mph in first gear, 67mph in second, 89 in third, 113 in fourth, 144 in fifth, and 178 in sixth.
If the Huracan were to launch in second gear and shift even in 300ms, it would be dead equal to the Viper.
Neither of these cars compete in the same segment. The Viper is actually a competitor to the Aventador. Price doesn't matter because a Bentley Mulsanne cost US$400,000 but it performed barely quicker than a V6 Mustang of its introduction year.
I REPEAT, THE VIPER COMPETED IN THE AVENTADOR/F12 CLASS. The Corvette Z06, which people call the Viper's competitor, was actually far more series-produced so it could seen as a Huracan/488 competitor.
