Easily one of the most overrated cars in history

3 more years and the sweet sweet R34 GT-R becomes legal, 2024, cant wait. I have already seen a motorex skyline in indiana before, but when it becomes legal I cannot wait! Already considering one, maybe the GTT or 25GT4 Turbo. it has the atessa AWD from the r34 but no rb26, rb25det, but seriously, I am going to go insane when this thing becomes legal. Gonna save 15k to get one of these bad boys, the grind is real. (before you say unrealistic price, just look it up GTT and 25GT4)

Lol 7:52. Japanese sure pull numbers out of their asses. If that really was the case it would be faster than a 996 GT3 RS or a Ferrari 360 CS. The 8:28 sounds about right, if not a bit faster. I'd say it's on par with an E46 M3 of the time.

User avatar

benedekpuskas  4y ago @Corvolet3

I think 8:28 is way too slow and 7:52 is way too fast :D
8:05-8:15 would be quite realistic considering that this car has around 330 hp

User avatar

Agreed.

But mate, actually R34 did a 8:14 in wet track condition. There's a video proof for it on Best Motoring YouTube channel. And yeah it's only 330hp. But with it's four wheel steering, AWD system, high level of aerodynamics, suspension and brakes, I think 7:52 is possible. Just like the NSX-R NA2, it did a 7:56 with just 290hp.

dr. cosimo  4y ago @Casual Car Guy

if you are talking about this video, then it's not a stock car and the driver was armin hahne a german and not japanese, it can go below 8mins but not with 280 or 330 hp, while it weighs 1,615 - 1,660 kg as tested per uk gtrs.

still better than any modern toyoyoyobox :)

Casual Car Guy  4y ago @dr. cosimo

I'm talking about the blue one. Yeah it's seems like it's modified. But actually it's a stock. They don't do time attacks in modified cars. It's just have roll cages for safety. And why? What's the matter with German drivers and Japanese? Nordschleife lap times are not depends on Horsepowers. Remember R33 V-Spec did a 7:59 with 300hp & NSX NA2 did a 7:56 with 290hp. There are lot of sources say R34 did a 7:52.

User avatar

dr. cosimo  4y ago @Casual Car Guy

r33 and nsx had their limiters removed, they won't get stuck at 180 kph, so that's not a stock car with 280 or 300 hp.

everybody knows a jdm car from the 90's with their 280hp restriction won't get close to those times, they've all been tweaked it's as simple as that. for the jdm market they came without airbags and unnecessary options, unlike eu and us that want all sorts of stupid safety shit added front, back sides almost in every corner.

nissan always relied on european drivers when the r32/r33/r34 were in development. their jdm drivers are suitable for marketing purposes in drifting and couple of laps around tsukuba and other local tracks.

whoever gets their hands on either cars won't regret it, but what will really suck is availability of oem parts and living outside japan. some workshops in japan do custom parts but at a very high cost, elsewhere would be like searching for moses's walking cane in the middle of the desert.

The NSX-R weighs 2,700lbs vs the R34 GTR weighing almost 3,700lbs. 40hp doesn't offset 1,000lbs of weight

User avatar

wallenieswiftie  3d ago @Corvolet3

Even that 7:56 for the base GT3 sounds like a bit too much. German car lap times are not exactly to be trusted either.

User avatar

Corvolet3  3d ago @wallenieswiftie

Walter Röhrl himself drove the first 996, so it isn't that unlikely. Considering it had a 8:04 at sport auto.

Change the Nürburgring time for 7.52 minutes. Previous time is a wet lap time.

User avatar

benedekpuskas  5y ago

Top speed is not 180km/h.

User avatar

kancho  6y ago

There is no official nurburgring time for r34, btw, r34 has overall improvements on aero, rigidity, and power. Why on earth would it be slower than its predecessor

User avatar

eleven  6y ago

This time is DEFINITELY fake. The R32 GTR did 8:22, no way an R34 is slower.

User avatar

hostboy  7y ago

This made 400 hp, not 276 hp. It ran the 1/4 mile in 13.2 sec at 111 mph

User avatar

hostboy  7y ago

Ah, they actually removed the 400m time

User avatar

Max73  8y ago

Is the nurburgring time right? I just did a 7:59 on gran turismo in a bone stock r34 gtr.

User avatar

Jim  8y ago

Only 7 more years 'til it's legal boys

User avatar

Griffin Duncan-Corey  8y ago

The Nurburging Time is 7.49 right?

I think this is the coolest gtr produced by nissan and with a bit of tuning it will be more than enough for an old guy in his early 40s

User avatar

jrad  13y ago

But even though it's a heck of a car. Something happened that made it street illegal

User avatar

PintoTurbo 130hp  14y ago

r34 was a mere concept of spongebob's pants before it went into production

User avatar

wallenieswiftie  3d ago

I mean both were released in 1999, right? (I meant R34 GT-R, not R34 itself.)

User avatar

monkeypop  15y ago

@Driver

Its probably pretty simple. Do some research on GTR forums and I'm sure you can find a quick fix for the limiter. I've removed limiters from various 90's model nissans with simple & free tricks. You probably just need to clip a wire or change out a resistor.

Of course you could go the expensive route and buy a piggyback ECU or reprogramer.

User avatar

driver  15y ago

Did anyone know how to remove speed limiter for this car? Cuz i just bought one of this

User avatar

Apathy  15y ago

Go away Pedro.

User avatar

Pedro Baltezan  15y ago

my time on the Nordschleife with m spec nur was better than that. My time was 8:23:434

POS and increadibly ugly

User avatar

Apathy  15y ago

I'm aware of the Z-tune. THat car has no bearing on what I was talking about though. The base R34 GTR (discussed here) will not run a sub 7:50 time around the ring in stock form with the limiter removed.

The Z-tune could probably do it, but there's no proof it has.
