The new 991.2 GT3 is such a bargain. Makes me laugh hard at those who bought 911Rs for the sake of investment.

more gt3's and rs's blowing up, even after the whole engine replacement process with german poop engineers promising it will be better than ever, lol

culprit ? vw beetle con-rod being used in a sportier vw that gave some idiots hope that they'll see 9,000 rpm for 150k lol x 9k.

My engine just blew up at Road Atlanta. Car was running great prior to that. Ran a personal best of 1:33.4 in second session. In third session car went into limp mode before turn 5 and then started throwing every error code in the book. Thought I could drive it back in limp mode but then it started smoking. Pulled over on the back straight and got out of the car since it was on fire at that point. Watched it burn until fire crew arrived. The most tortuous part was watching them put it on the tow truck since all systems were down and the car couldn't be put in neutral. Assume it is totaled. Will argue Porsche needs to replace it and if that doesn't work I have track insurance. Will need whatever support I can get from the Rennlist community if Porsche puts up an argument. Another chapter in the 991 GT3 engine saga...

Porsche 991 GT3 Estoril by Autofoco
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVb_u-vLsak

The lap time I timed was 1:53.66 only 2.24s faster than a Mclaren F1 with 2 passengers with 20yrs better technology.

Is it true the new GT3 engine has issues ? I do not recall this happening in the older cars.

I'm talking about the mkI gtr, and no hype at all.

The LFA, and SLS are both front engine rear drive, while the gt3 is rear engine... Huge difference there. the lambo never had a great launch despite AWD considering the Porsche turbo can hit 60mph nearly a second faster (and isn't that lambo got a manual or slow e-gear?)

From what u posted, it looks about right. And all this speculation is stupid. Put it on a dyno and end of discussion.

@saxy: The GTR is way too overhyped for any of the numbers to be taken seriously! I don't believe the 10.6 for one second!
Here's some other cars with similar power to weight:

lp560: 361hp/t: 0-200 in 11.0
430 scud: 359: 11.0
LFA: 343: 11.4

GT3: 329: 11.2

SL65 amg: 318: 11.8
e63 amg: 312hp/t: 12.7

Not the best comparison but the best I found! I don't know if the numbers are lies, like the mk3 GTR that supposedly does 200 in 10.6 or the power is exaggerated, or Porsche did something extra-extraordinary!

User avatar

saxy  11y ago

The gtr which had about the same hp, weighing much much more had about the same 0-200 right?

User avatar

vette  11y ago

@saxy: I was talking only about the acceleration...

User avatar

saxy  11y ago

@vette PDK + 4 wheel steering + more racy engine and most importantly + Cup 2 tires. this is the closest thing to a actual cup racing car. I'm not surprised at how fast it is on the track. But like the Blyton park test. It's significantly slower on the straights (should be, considering the engine power). but makes up all the lap times in the tight corners and turn in, and exits

User avatar

vette  11y ago

I call BS on the power figure...How the hell is this faster or at least as fast as the old gt2?! I doubt the PDK being that much better than the manual to make up for so much power per ton!

There probably is a market for it, but not much. I think there's enough 911's going around to not need more confusion. The C2S is already very good (and already not cheap). I think people would be more excited to see higher range models as oppose to in-between ones like a GT4

User avatar

BR2+  11y ago

Sure theres a market for it, For the people who cant afford a GT3 they buy a Carrera S, So something above the S but below the 3, Theres certainly room for that, I even know a few in this case, More hardcore then an S, but less then a GT3. Ive always wanted to see a GT4 ever since the 1st one came out.

User avatar

Mental  11y ago

I don't see any point in so called "991 GT4", there is no market for it... GT3 is already a hell of a bargain for its blitz-performance.

But I would fu-king love to see the GT1 in 991 interpretation! I can imagine it would be a God of a Machine! Porsche should have worked on it instead of 918.

In addition, I would love to see something like Cayman GT3 RS. A Cayman's mid-engine lighter, more stable configuration combined with 991 GT3 electronics and PDK, combined with a high-revving atmosphere 3.8 Boxer-6 engine outputting 500+ PS. That would be an ultimate supercar! I think Porsche should run a limited edition of these ĆĀ¼ber-Caymans!

However, currently Porsche is working on a GTS version of a Boxster and Cayman. The upgraded one will have 20 PS boost... Oh Porsche, why can't you just a huge power bump up to 380 PS, and not to facelift the model every 2 years???

User avatar

Piorun  11y ago

There is no possibility to make "cheaper GT3 911" beceause its basicly a Carrera S at this role.

Porsche officialy conformed that they have worked on 981 Cayman "R" model which would be called now as "GTS" or GT4/GT3, and it will be proper racer car as a 991 GT3 is.

However some shady works is behind this, they are silient about this project. Propably as usual... Cayman GTS/GT4 would be too fast compared to base 911 Carrera and Carrera S and that could lower the sales of bigger brother. We will see...

User avatar

Mrknows  11y ago

Well, but they will only built a Cayman GT4 next year, sry …

User avatar

BR2+  11y ago

911 GT4...Nine-Eleven-Gee-Tee-Four, Not Cayman.

User avatar

Mrknows  11y ago

There will be a Cayman GT4 coming out next year, probably with MT and about 380 - 400 hp… Front axle of 991 GT3 etc :)

User avatar

Piorun  11y ago

@BR2+
Its called CaymanR

User avatar

BR2+  11y ago

Id love to see a GT4, Something like a "Average Persons' GT3, Slotted below the GT3 but affordable, They need a GT1/GT2/GT3/GT4 for the 991 variations.

I did, but since we did not see a video or any other proof of the lap, I have to say that it was only an estimation by the cars chief developer.

User avatar

BR2+  11y ago

DeDe I thought you said that time was a Claim? Not an Estimation?..
