Over here on FL's sister site AT, the 458 Speciale is reported to do the 400m sprint in 11.0sec. That's accurate, even with the 9.2s 0-200kph time.

I don't mean to badmouth Ferrari, but sometimes their 400m estimates are based on a prepped strip, perhaps without the one-foot rollout; or it could be the other way around. American automakers absolutely do both.

https://accelerationtimes.com/models/ferrari-458-speciale

10.7sec is possible with EITHER a rollout OR on a dragstrip. A 10.4sec time is possible because the 458S, the 12C, and the original Aventador/Huracan all share the same power-to-weight ratio.

Ferrari and US automakers are rarely "conservative" with any performance figure.

I've made calculated acceleration figures for some V8 Ferraris using available data about aerodynamics, gear ratios, torque curves and so on.
It's interesting to compare it with tested figures.

Ferrari/Quattroruote's claims for 0-100 and 0-200 km/h may be based on rollout. There is no way that even on the most perfect day with the most professional driver that this thing is doing 0-100 km/h in 3.0 (which is 60 mph in 2.9) without a 1' rollout, which the Americans and CarWow use.

Nice review. I can see an incredible fun and driving excitement on his face while he is driving 458 Speciale.

Ferrari should not stop producing N/A V8 cars.

0-80 kph as 0-50 mph is one of the very few mph/kph substitutes allowed. But what is the issue date of Autocar magazine where this was published?

Heres the order they came in.

1 Ferrari 458 Speciale 2 Ariel Atom 3.5R 3 Porsche 991.1 911 GT3 4 Porsche 987 Cayman S 5 McLaren 650S 6 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray Z51 7 Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy 8 Bmw I8 9 Vauxhall VXR8 GTS 10 Jaguar F-Type R COupe 11 Alfa Romeo 4C

Still though, 2 BDCC, Both AC and MT, Yet you have to opposite conclusions from 1 car, The 4C, Ones all the way at the top, And ones all the wayat the bottom, I find that facinating.

Still, Just looking at that list, Id have to say the BDCC car top 5 would be.. The Megane, Atom, Stingray, Cayman, GT3.

User avatar

lamboboy  10y ago

F-type R might be a great car but im sure its not a great drivers car. Its probably too tail happy. You could say its as much a drivers car as an SLS AMG, or maybe less. Its a heavy oversteery GT car it wont win any driver's car titles anytime soon.

User avatar

Piorun  10y ago

For me F-type R should be at 7th positon, but i dont know how it would compare with M4.
Jag has that charisma, and it is more of a fun car than clinical drivers car with subtele handlig, but that does not make it bad car for right driver. However its a bad car for bad driver.

Same with cars like GT-R, Megane - those are good car for those that arent driving masters, they will be fast and still it will be fun for them.

User avatar

BR2+  10y ago

Arent all Speciale's special?

@P

I dont mind Steve Suitcliff, By im no big fan of AutoCar as a whole, Espescially when it comes to any car thats not British, DOnt like Johnny Liebermann from MotorTrend either, But for different reasons.

Im also not saying a Megane is better then an F-Type, But simply a better Drivers car, We all have different opinions on what a Real Drivers car is though, SO somebodys gotta complain.

@Luque

I agree, Im sick of this hyped up press car bullshite, and not advertised power figures, Just give them the car and the keys with no bs, And if the car has 610Bhp, THATS what it should have.

User avatar

Luque  10y ago

maybe it was special speciale

Of course.
And what about the 911 Turbo S tested by SPORT AUTO with 607ps (560 ps declared) and 784 Nm or the Lamborghini Huracan tested by Autobild with 631 ps instead of 610 ?
They are turbo SUPER S or HURACAN special edition for the presse ?
