Unfortunately the management / designer of this track decided to add multiple configurable chicanes and alternate sections. This was a big mistake. Nobody will ever know for sure which configuration was used for which lap times. There isn't even exhaustive list of all those permutations with their names (do they even exist?) available on their own website or any website. Just a terrible idea.

Sam Lowes (World Superbike racer) on the launch of the revised Yamaha YZF-R1M has lapped said track on a non M version Stock 2018 Yamaha YZF-R1 on road Bridgestones only 4 seconds slower than his best World Superbike time. That would make his time on a stock road bike approximately 1.46.40 if based upon his World Superbike Pole time from 2017. Source here. https://youtu.be/NGpe1700EaQ?t=1008

If they were standing start then the p1 should have annihilated the other two even more because it was by far the quickest at the end of the straight.

Andreas - The problem is that it's not really a hot lap if indeed they did go from a standstill. A hot lap requires a flying start. I'm also not convinced they were from standing starts (my first guess would certainly be otherwise), unless we believe the video, in which case he massively sandbagged in the P1 by drifting it around two bends, which definitely loses heaps of time. Very little hard evidence available either way, very poor test in that respect.
FastestLaps 9y ago
No I actually don't know that. Do you have any extra info confirming that they were standing laps (other than whats already discussed)?
Even if they are (and they very well might be), having flying and standing laps on same board doesn't make it inaccurate. Standing start is a self-inflicted disadvantage that just results in slower laptimes - nothing wrong with having fast and slow laptimes on same board.
It is only a problem once you start comparing cars.
Andreas 9y ago
I assume you do know that Jérôme d'Ambrosio's laps are from a standstill, and Chris Harris's were on a flying start...which obviously makes a massive difference rendering your time board pretty inaccurate?

Well Cup 2s were 2.4s faster than Cup+ even on a 991 Turbo S on a 2 minute track.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Michelin-Pilot-Sport-Cup-2-Launched.htm
Trofeos (non-R) which are still faster than Corsas were only 0.4s faster on a 1 minute track.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Sport-Auto-Track-Day-Tyre-Test.htm
Meanwhile Trofeo Rs were only 1.79s quicker than Corsas here. All same day tests.
